Trenitalia

Trenitalia operates an extensive night train network called Intercity Notte throughout Italy, offering sleeping cars ('Relax'), couchette cars ('Comfort'), and seating cars ('Easy').

What do the sleeper cars offer?

The sleeping cars ('Relax') have 3-bed compartments that can be booked for single, double, or triple occupancy. Solo travelers automatically receive a private compartment. Each compartment has a washbasin, reading lights, and power sockets. Adjacent compartments can be connected for families and groups. On routes from Rome to Trieste, Bolzano, and Lecce, 'Superior' sleeping cars are available with private bathroom and shower.

How do the couchette cars work?

The couchette cars ('Comfort') feature 4-berth compartments, with options for women-only or family compartments. The berths are about 190 cm long. Before departure, the train crew distributes sleeping bags, pillows, and blankets. Due to frequent stops and passenger movement, these can be slightly noisier at night.

What do the seating cars offer?

The seating cars ('Easy') mostly have open-plan carriages with seats arranged in groups of four. The lights may stay on all night. Some routes also have carriages with 6-seat compartments where you can adjust lighting, speakers, and heating yourself. All seating cars have power sockets and a small table.
