Night trains have heating and air conditioning. However, the effectiveness  (and sometimes if they are running at all) varies depending on the train.

So be well prepared: Before travelling, check the weather forecast to find out what temperatures you can expect outside on your journey. Dress applying the layering principle, which allows you to adapt to the temperatures.

If you tend to be cold, take a warm jacket and an additional light blanket to be safe. Warm socks also help when sleeping. Choose one of the upper beds in the sleeper and couchette carriages - warm air rises.

If you tend to be warm, take an extra T-shirt to sleep in and change into. Choose one of the lower beds in the sleeper and couchette carriages.

In sleeper and couchette coaches, you can often regulate the temperature in your compartment. However, you and your fellow travellers must agree on a temperature.

Mainly on older night trains, you can open the window. In modern night trains, it is usually closed so that the air conditioning works better.
