Caledonian Sleeper

The Caledonian Sleeper connects London with various destinations in Scotland and offers a comfortable overnight travel option. The train provides comfortable sleeper cars, but also seats for budget-conscious travelers. There are basically two lines: the Lowlander and the Highlander. The Highlander travels further into northern Scotland while the Lowlander serves destinations including the Scottish metropolis of Glasgow.

What sleeper classes are available?

There are three different sleeper car options: the Classic Room with bunk beds and washbasin (toilets at the end of the car), the Club Room with identical layout but with an additional private bathroom with toilet and shower, and the luxurious Caledonian Double with a proper double bed and private bathroom. With the Club Car, the Caledonian Sleeper has a restaurant car offering an extensive selection for dinner and breakfast. Particularly popular is the Traditional Scottish Breakfast with eggs, bacon, baked beans, haggis, and black pudding. Passengers in higher categories have priority during busy times and their breakfast is included.

Can compartments be combined for families?

Yes, in the Classic Room, adjacent compartments can be connected by a connecting door to form a sort of suite. This is particularly convenient for families with children. Additionally, each part of the train typically includes an accessible sleeper car with wheelchair-friendly compartments.

Are there seating cars?

The Caledonian Sleeper also offers seating cars as the most economical option. Prices start at less than 100 euros, while a sleeper car is significantly more expensive. The seating cars are particularly interesting for budget-conscious travelers and those with bicycles, as bicycle spaces are available here.

How are the washing facilities equipped?

The sanitary facilities vary depending on the compartment type. Classic Rooms have a washbasin in the compartment, while toilets can be found at the end of the car. Club Rooms and Caledonian Doubles offer the additional comfort of a private bathroom with toilet and shower. For guests with reduced mobility, each section of the train includes accessible compartments with appropriately equipped sanitary facilities.
