Trenitalia

Trenitalia operates an extensive night train network called Intercity Notte throughout Italy, offering sleeper, couchette, and seating cars.

What do the sleeper cars offer?

The sleeper cars ('Deluxe') offer compartments with one (S), two (D), or three beds (T3), each equipped with a sink. Adjacent compartments can be connected for groups. On routes between Milan/Rome and Sicily, luxury 'Excelsior' sleepers are available with four-person compartments including private bathroom and shower.

How do the couchette cars work?

The couchette cars ('Comfort') feature 4-person compartments, with options for women-only or family compartments. Due to frequent stops and passenger movement, these can be slightly noisier at night.

What do the seating cars offer?

The seating cars ('Basic') offer 6-person compartments with power outlets and tables. Adjustable headrests, lighting, and heating plus curtains make the journey more pleasant. Some routes also feature open-plan coaches where lights remain on permanently.
