Lying down on a night bus – how does that work?

Twiliner is the first bus company in Europe where you can travel and sleep lying down. Especially in Asia and Latin America, lying down on a night bus has long been a normal and well-established part of travelling. (Author's note: There's also a bus like this in New Zealand between Auckland and Wellington – at least 15 years ago, it was cheap and a great experience.) Different concepts are used, for example, with cabins, reclining seats, and even a kind of hammock.

Twiliner has opted for a self-developed lie-flat seat, similar to an airline's business class seat. Your seat transforms into a completely flat bed at the touch of a button.

What routes are there, and where can I book?

Twiliner currently operates one route from Switzerland to Spain and one to the Netherlands. You can find them all in this handy overview:

After comparing prices on nightride.com, you'll be redirected straight to Twiliner's booking page.

The following routes are available:

The bus with the number 003ZB or 004BZ also stops in Girona along the way.

The bus with the number 001ZA or 002AZ also stops in Brussels, Rotterdam, and Luxembourg along the way.

What about safety?

As mentioned, travelling lying down on a bus is widespread and well-tested on other continents. Twiliner has developed its own special safety system to ensure you're safe.

When sitting, you buckle up with a seatbelt, just like in a coach or car. When lying down, you slip into a sleeping bag that is secured to the lie-flat seat.

The bus drivers are experienced and specially trained for night travel. There are two drivers on every trip, and they take turns.

What about comfort & amenities?

All lie-flat seats come with a sheet, pillow, and blanket. You can eat and work at a small table. You have personal storage space, a reading light, and a USB-C port to charge your electronic devices. You get free WiFi during the journey.
